Celebrate World Car Free Day in Los Angeles

The Los Angeles Tourism & Convention Board is making it easier than ever to discover L.A. without a car. Car Free L.A. features a series of self-guided "car free" itineraries that offer a new, eco-friendly way to experience the best of L.A. via foot, bike and Metro. Whether it’s culture, coastal attractions, global cuisine, music or architecture, you can see it all car free. 

On Sunday, Sept. 21, 2014, join fellow Car Free enthusiasts around the globe and celebrate World Car Free Day. Read on for our guide to car free events taking place across the city, from bike tours to a scavenger hunt and a 5K run at Dodger Stadium. All events take place on Sept. 21 unless otherwise noted.

L.A. in a Day - Bikes and Hikes



Bikes and Hikes LA is a full-service tour company that promotes an eco-friendly, healthy way to enjoy all that Los Angeles has to offer. Begin at 10 a.m. on legendary Route 66 in West Hollywood and bike through Beverly Hills and Bel-Air to see the luxurious homes of the stars. Then it’s off to L.A.’s world-famous beach cities: Santa Monica, Venice and Marina Del Rey. Afterwards, pedal through Culver City to see some of the historic movie studios that put Los Angeles on the map. This 32-mile, 5.5-hour excursion includes multiple walking tours, breaks, and a 30-minute stop for lunch ($10 extra). Price is $162 per person. Sept. 22: BlacklistLA



On Monday, September 22, BlacklistLA is inviting runners from across the city to celebrate World Car Free Day and Car Free L.A. The group will meet at 10 pm in front of the iconic Urban Light installation, located in the BP Pavilion off Wilshire Boulevard at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA). Participants are encouraged to arrive shortly before 10 p.m. and wear comfortable running shoes. Bring your cameras or cellphones to take pictures along the way, and join the conversation by using #blacklistla and #CarFreeLA.
