Located within the iconic Walt Disney Concert Hall in Downtown L.A., the Roy and Edna Disney/Calarts Theater (REDCAT) is a multi-media arts center for innovative visual, performing and media arts. Since its opening in November 2003, REDCAT has garnered praise for showcasing up-and-coming artists, and introducing groundbreaking internationally-renowned artists and exhibitions to L.A. audiences.

One of the highlights of the 2016 Winter/Spring program at REDCAT is The Wooster Group’s production of The Room by Harold Pinter (Feb. 4-14). With the L.A. Performs special offer, you can buy one ticket and get a free ticket to the same performance of The Room when you book a minimum of two Los Angeles hotel nights. Directed by founding member Elizabeth LeCompte, The Room at REDCAT features performances by Group members and associates Kate Valk, Suzzy Roche, Ari Fliakos, Philip Moore and Scott Renderer. The Room is Pinter’s first play, written in 1957 when the Nobel Prize-winning playwright, actor and director was 27. In a 1958 review, London’s Sunday Times wrote that “the play makes one stir uneasily in one’s shoes, and doubt, for a moment, the comforting solidity of the earth.”

The seminal theater ensemble, described as “American theater’s most inspired company” by The New York Times, is premiering this new production of The Room as part of a multi-year relationship between REDCAT and The Wooster Group, which has made the theater their second home in the U.S.

Since its founding in 1975, the company has created and performed 21 pieces for theater, 12 film/video pieces, and five dance pieces. Recent Wooster Group productions at REDCAT include the 2015 West Coast premiere of Early Shaker Spirituals: A Record Album Interpretation, starring Academy-, Tony- and Emmy Award-winning actress Frances McDormand; the world premiere of Cry, Trojans! (Troilus & Cressida); and Early Plays, described by New York Magazine as "A rare collaboration between two avant-garde powerhouses: The Wooster Group and Richard Maxwell's New York City Players."

The Wooster Group has played a pivotal role in bringing technologically sophisticated and evocative uses of sound, film and video into the realm of contemporary theater, and in the process has influenced a generation of theater artists nationally and internationally. The Group's work is unique because it attracts not only the theater-going community but also artists and enthusiasts of many other cultural disciplines, such as dance, painting, music, video and film.

The Wooster Group has won widespread critical acclaim and numerous awards, including nine Obie Awards, six Bessie Awards, a Guggenheim Fellowship, the Edwin Booth Award for Significant Contributions to New York Theater, and the National Endowment for the Arts Ongoing Ensembles Grant.
