All three Café Gratitude locations (Arts District, Larchmont, Venice) plus the Gratitude Kitchen & Bar in Beverly Hills are once again offering carefully crafted lunch and dinner menus as a sampling of their everyday whole food goodness. Everything's a safe bet and menus are seasonal. Look for the dineL.A. marker on the table.
SAGE VEGAN BISTRO
The Echo Park, Culver City, and Pasadena locations of Sage Vegan Bistro are back for the dineL.A. action this year. There is so much to sample from their extensive menus, including the signature cauliflower buffalo wings and their newly debuted pizzas.
Known for their cold-pressed juices, Kreation Kafe in Brentwood also offers a line of healthy grab-n-go salads, raw wraps, homemade soups, and delectable desserts. The puddings in little half jelly jars are hard to resist!
The dinner menu at Checker Hall is perfect to experiment with the Mediterranean diet. Lots of heart-friendly options, including the smoky eggplant-based Baba Ganoush, cauliflower in a house tahini sauce, a lentil-filled mizuna salad, and a tahini brownie or rosewater-infused ashta as a fourth and final course.
Everything on the salatim sampler at Jaffa is vegetarian if not vegan—slaw, fattoush, and a tahini-marinated roasted root vegetable dish. The second course offers a crispy eggplant wrap or grain bowl with Israeli salad, pickles and other accents on the side. Dinner features market couscous for an entree and adds a sweet halva plate featuring locally-grown fruit.
NOREE THAI ON BEVERLY
Noree Thai on Beverly is offering a steal of a lunch menu that's chock full of veggies—egg rolls, fried tofu or green salad precede tofu larb or mixed veggies sautéed in garlic. Price includes a choice of drink—Thai iced tea, iced matcha green tea, or Thai coffee. Dinner comes with an appetizer, main course, and dessert—no substitutions. Pineapple salad, spicy three-mushroom larb, and mango sticky rice make for a perfect plant-based meal.
BEAUTY & ESSEX
Located at Dream Hollywood, Beauty & Essex is offering a four-course dinner menu that features numerous vegetable-friendly dishes—spaghettini with pesto and zucchini, a Thai bbq mushroom/broccoli slaw, and roasted rainbow carrots, to name just a few. Finish with homemade “NYC doughnuts” covered in dark chocolate fudge and caramel.
From the four-course dinner menu at La Boheme, start with the Vegetable Duet - eggplant bruschetta and roasted beets, followed by mixed baby greens with balsamic vinaigrette. For the main course, choose from crisp herbed polenta or soba noodle spaghetti. Finish with the berry crumble or fruit & sorbet parfait.
Living up to their “An Indian Indulgence” tagline, Spice Affair in Beverly Hills is serving a four-course dinner with innovative dishes including chana masala hummus for the first course and sundried tomato paneer tikka for the second. The main course offers lotus kofta - lotus root & walnut dumplings with saffron rice and an aromatic tomato sauce. Finish with the chef’s specialty, homemade mango mousse.
Vegan items are clearly marked on the Broxton dinner menu. First course options include Sea Island Red Pea hummus or the Very Green Salad; blackened tofu served with a choice of side and mini-biscuit for the second course; and Chocolate Indulgence with chocolate mousse, chocolate croutons, oat-milk ganache, and coconut whipped cream.
THE STALKING HORSE BREWERY & FREEHOUSE
Vegans have numerous choices for lunch and dinner at The Stalking Horse, including homemade chips (aka the British word for fries) plus three dips, a hearty root salad, or a battered tofu version of “fish-n-chips.” The vegan Welsh rarebit offered as the first course on both menus is the frontrunner. A very well made double-stacked Impossible Burger is another fave, while the house Caesar salad can be veganized, too.
1212 SANTA MONICA
For lunch at 1212 Santa Monica, start with the roasted truffled pumpkin and then enjoy the mixed mushroom puttanesca spaghetti for the entree. Dinner offers a first-course Vegetable Duet with Okinawa sweet potato croquette and avocado "poke." Main course features roasted cauliflower "steak" with romesco sauce and kalamata vinaigrette. The only tough decision will be choosing between the chocolate volcano or fruit & sorbet parfait for dessert.
Santa Monica's Lunetta is offering a three-course dinner menu. Course one features a black truffle mushroom soup or Jiraffe beet salad topped with caramelized walnuts, dried cherries, goat cheese cream, and banyuls vinaigrette. The main course presents a wild mushroom pappardelle with farmer's market wild mushrooms and wild arugula in a sancerre mushroom sauce. The decadent dessert options include a chocolate Twix bar bomb, sticky toffee pudding, or pistachio profiteroles to cleanse the palate.
The two-course lunch is the best bet at Bone Kettle in Pasadena. Start with Gado Gado (tofu tempeh salad in a peanut sauce) and make it vegan without the quail eggs. Crispy tempeh with vegan broth and noodles combine for a hearty second course.
